Beyond the Echo Chamber:
Part I
If America's effort in Iraq is to be salvaged, and the sacrifices and honour of its serving men and women are not to be thrown away, it has to be done now. And, most of the work will have to be done by ordinary people like you and myself. That work will involve the organization of a coalition, a coalition that cuts across the usual divisions that set various forms of conservatives, moderates and libertarians in opposition on issues like abortion, gays, church-and-state, the federal deficit, immigration, etc.

The reason why we are facing a humiliating defeat in Iraq is due to the catastrophic mismanagement of the post-combat phase of the occupation of that country by the Bush Administration. Now that same Administration, which is congenitally incapable of learning a single lesson, is proposing yet another dopey plan involving half measures to try and salvage that which can no longer be salvaged. To blame the looming catastrophe in Iraq on the Democratic Party or the left in general is absurd. The Admininstration and its blinkered supporters received far more support than they should have gotten from the Democrats, and now even the more rational Republicans understand the need to change that failed policy. It's only the conservative "true believers" who can't seem to face reality - such as yourself - who continue to support this Administration's foolishness.
You are certainly right to complain about the self-destructive attitudes and policies that Europeans have adopted, but that is a separate issue from the causes of the Iraq debacle, which rests squarely on the delusional worldviews and planning of this Administration.
